Johnson Wachira

Team Lead

Close to a decade’s experience in transaction advisory, corporate finance, and trading. Johnson worked in the Corporate Finance division of Burbidge Capital, and at Futures First (Kenya) Limited. At Futures First, he was the first trader in the Nairobi Office to trade Wheat Futures in four different international exchanges; after just one year in the firm. Johnson continuously scaled up and improved his trading performance over his period at the firm, managing to match his entire 2016 gross profit in the first three months in 2017. Johnson has successfully advised and facilitated, directly and indirectly, more than USD 60 million in form of debt, equity and grants financings for clients across various industries. Among other achievements, his efforts have contributed to the creation of a Tier 1 retailer in the region, leading to the creation of numerous jobs. He currently has an existing clientele consisting of companies with millions of dollars in EBITDA and Assets across various industries in the region.
At JEL, he is responsible for all aspects of the transaction process, from deal sourcing to closure and portfolio monitoring. He is also responsible for formulating and executing profitable trading strategies in global futures and spot markets.

Johnson has a Bachelor of Business Science in Financial Economics degree (First Class Hons) from Strathmore University and ACCA Qualification Papers.

Abdul Rahman Hussein

Manager & Lead Financial Analyst

All-round finance and investment professional with 7+ years’ experience in private equity, corporate finance and capital markets research. Abdul currently focuses primarily on the management of a permanent capital vehicle with over USD 100 million under management, including responsibility for identifying, screening, and evaluating investment opportunities. His also supports fundraising and exits, and monitors the performance of a diverse portfolio of investments across the renewable energy, mining, real estate, and agriculture sectors in East and Southern Africa.

Abdul also serves as the Finance Manager for a mobility startup that imports and leases electric vehicles in Kenya. He oversees reporting, budgeting and compliance. He previously worked as an Equity Research Analyst covering listed entities in East Africa with a focus on financial services and manufacturing sectors.

Abdul holds a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Engineering from Strathmore University (Second Class Honors – Upper Division) and is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA (UK)).

Annette Mumbi, CFA

Consultant Financial Analyst

Grace has recently transitioned from CrossBoundary Energy Access (CBEA) where she was an Associate Director. Annette is an investment professional, a CFA Charterholder with 8+ years investment experience. Notably, Annette managed fundraising due diligence processes and financial close for CBEA’s $25 million raise. The first close investors included Microsoft, Bank of America, ARCH Emerging Market Partners. Annette curated multiple data rooms, managed tens of investors through due diligence processes and developed detailed question logs with hundreds of responses for CBEA’s $150 million fundraise. Annette has experience raising capital from climate funds, impact and private equity investors at CBEA, in addition to raising from pension and insurance funds while at Sanlam. She is well versed with fundraising processes for commercial equity, debt and concessional capital, and has worked end to end across multiple fundraising cycles, from initial pitches to financial close. Before CBEA, Annette analyzed African companies and recommended investments at Kenya’s leading pension fund manager with over ~US$ 3 billion AUM.

Priscilla Kabicho

Consultant Financial Analyst

7+ years’ experience in Strategic Finance. Priscilla has worked in financial advisory providing M&A support, due diligence services, valuation as well as market and feasibility support to businesses in East Africa across various sectors including energy, financial services, FMCG, agriculture and technology. Priscilla has also worked in management consulting developing actionable strategies for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa. Most recently, Priscilla has worked as a financial planning and analysis (FP&A) expert in Energy, specifically solar energy, facilitating business planning, financial modelling, pricing strategies, and budgeting and forecasting for markets in East and West Africa. In this role, she has managed budgets ranging in size from USD 15 – 50 million.
Priscilla holds a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Engineering from Strathmore University and is an affiliate member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
